Can You Scrap a Caravan?

If you have an old caravan that is no longer in sellable condition taking up space on your property, you may be wondering whether you can scrap it for cash. Although some vehicle recyclers do offer caravan scrapping services, the vast majority do not for the reasons we will get into in this blog.

Why Are Caravans Hard to Scrap?

Caravans can be difficult to scrap for many reasons:

Diverse Materials

Caravans are constructed using a variety of materials, including aluminium, plastic and fibreglass. This range of materials makes dismantling and recycling caravans more challenging than it would be with a standard vehicle.

Caravan Structure

The way caravans are constructed means that they need specialised techniques in order to safely remove components and prepare materials for recycling.

Extra Waste

There isn’t much metal to scrap in a caravan other than the thin skin of aluminium and so the  scrappers are left with a lot of extra waste they then need to dispose of. Disposing of these waste materials can sometimes cost just as much as the scrap metal, making scrapping caravans a less attractive option for most recyclers.

How to Scrap a Caravan

The best way to get started scrapping your unwanted caravan is to search for specialist caravan scrappers in your area. Once you have found someone to take it off your hands, make sure that all the utilities are disconnected and that any rubbish or personal items are cleared.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Be prepared to pay for your caravan removal and scrapping. Some scrappers will pay you for the salvage parts and scrap metal but this amount will most likely be deducted from the overall removal and scrapping fee.

At A&L, we may not offer a caravan scrapping service but we do scrap a range of other vehicles.
