1) Find an authorised treatment facility.

Keep this certificate and your DVLA confirmation safe. Without the correct records, you could remain liable for vehicle tax or penalties connected to the vehicle.

An attractive offer is not worth the risk if there's a good chance the person who's interested in buying your vehicle is operating illegally. Look out for these warning signs:
- The dealer can't or won't confirm which ATF will receive the vehicle
- The dealer wants to pay you in cash
- The dealer tells you that notifying the DVLA is unnecessary
- You're given no record of the transaction
